Southwest Preparatory
Virtual School

Welcome!

Thanks for asking about our program. I hope the following will give you a good idea of what is available through our school. Make sure to follow the links below and read them carefully.

Start with a description of the program.

After you have read that, read the rules information in detail:

Keep in mind that while you have more flexibility over your time in Virtual School than you would in a traditional school, the courses are not easier. In fact, because we require you to master the material for each course and then take a single test to pass it, most students find our program to be harder. While you have plenty of access to our teachers for tutoring, the bottom line is that you absolutely MUST know the material. Those who are looking for an easy way to get to their diplomas typically find the Virtual School too hard.

After reading the description, the rules, and the thought above, if you are genuinely interested in the program, you can start the process of enrolling by checking to make sure your computer can access the system we use to deliver courses. When we meet, you will need to tell me how this went, in terms of all, some, or none of the representative modules opening in new windows.

Drop by one of our campuses to pick up an application and fill it out before our meeting. The addresses for our three physical campuses are below. Please do not plan to fill one out while we are meeting; it is to your advantage to have it completed first. Don't forget to make sure you also do the form for free and reduced meals. While we don't feed the Virtual School students, that form contains data that we use to evaluate our program.

Get a copy of your transcript from your most recent school. You will need to ask for a "working copy" or an "unofficial transcript". If you ask for a regular transcript (the kind that need a special stamp), they will probably tell you that we (the new school) will request one later. That is true, but it doesn't help us make sure we get you in the right classes to begin with. Anything they can give you now that shows the courses for which you have already earned credit will be a big help.

Finally, request a time for a meeting. The interview is not for our deciding whether to accept you, but for completing the paperwork and helping us to make sure we do all we can to get you off to a good start. At the meeting, I will ask you to tell me what the four rules are; make sure you know them.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,
Rushton Hurley
